This is a unique little cup desk organizer made from a beautiful piece of soft maple burl. This little cup is only 1 1/2 inches tall and not quite 3 inches across. This may not be large in stature but it is very useful for little things on your desk or work space that you need close at hand but don't want rolling all over the place. I have found that these little cups are exceptional for beading and jewelry making. It helps to keep beads and findings very close at hand and easy to scoop out without having to worry about hearing all those little drops of rolling beads hitting the floor.
This cup is made from a piece of burl that has been sitting in our neighbors field for nearly three years. This was nearly headed for the wood furnace, so we can honestly say, this is reclaimed. As shown, this particular cup has a large area of very dark brown caused by not only the burl effect itself but the aged areas that have begun to blacken. If left to sit any long, it would have began to rot away but as it is now, it has left a very interesting eye-catching area to this piece. This area does come through to the inside of the cup but in a smaller area.
This cup has been finished with a very hard and glossy coat that will help to protect this piece for years to come. While this is made from what is called soft maple, it is actually hard wood. The term soft is actually in reference to difference in harvesting maple sap from hard maple.
